The Ducit Blue Foundation (DBF) and The AMR Narrative have announced a new collaboration to implement the African AMR Voices Network – an initiative committed to bringing together lived experience and collective voices to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR) across Africa.

The partnership brings together The AMR Narrative’s expertise in patient and public advocacy and global community engagement with Ducit Blue Foundation’s work across patient safety, quality improvement, implementation research and AMR.

At the heart of the African AMR Voices Network is a commitment to ensure that people and communities affected by AMR have greater opportunities to contribute to awareness, advocacy and action.

While lived experience will remain central to the initiative, the network will seek to bring together a wider range of perspectives from across the AMR community, including patients and survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals and health experts, patient organisations, advocates and other stakeholders working to address AMR across Africa.

Uniting lived experience and collective voices

AMR affects individuals, families, communities and health systems, and responding effectively requires the involvement of those experiencing its consequences as well as those working to prevent and address them.

Through the African AMR Voices Network, the two organisations aim to strengthen connections between lived experience, community perspectives and professional expertise, while creating greater opportunities for people to participate meaningfully in AMR advocacy.

A particular focus will be placed on ensuring perspectives from under-represented communities and regions are included, while building a stronger and more connected community around AMR across Africa. The partnership also has ambitions to develop an approach that can grow across different countries and languages.

From experience to advocacy and action

Beyond raising awareness, the African AMR Voices Network aims to strengthen the role of lived experience and community engagement within the wider AMR advocacy.

The AMR Narrative and Ducit Blue Foundation will seek opportunities to engage with national health agencies, regional bodies and other stakeholders, while advocating for stronger recognition of community storytelling and survivor engagement.

The collaboration will also support advocacy capacity building, knowledge sharing and strategic partnerships, helping people and organisations across the AMR community strengthen their ability to advocate for meaningful change.

Together, The AMR Narrative and Ducit Blue Foundation are committed to building a network that recognises that tackling AMR requires more than one perspective. By bringing together lived experience and collective voices, the African AMR Voices Network aims to strengthen awareness, build advocacy capacity and help inspire meaningful action against AMR across the continent.
