The Ducit Blue Foundation AMR One Health Pan-African Internship & Mentorship Programme received global recognition as the Winner of the Multi-Country Collaborations Category at the 2025 Antibiotic Guardian Awards, organised by the UK Health Security Agency. This prestigious international award celebrates outstanding initiatives that demonstrate innovation, collaboration, and measurable impact in tackling antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
The winning project, “Uniting African Youth for One Health Leadership: Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance Across Borders Through Mentorship, Innovation and Capacity Building,” showcased the collective impact of the programme across its first three cohorts. Through a structured approach to technical training, mentorship, leadership development, and cross-border collaboration, the programme empowered young professionals from across Africa to develop practical, evidence-based solutions to antimicrobial resistance using a One Health approach.
Across the first three cohorts, the programme engaged 51 interns, 34 mentors, and 59 facilitators from 19 African countries, creating a vibrant Pan-African network of emerging leaders committed to advancing antimicrobial stewardship. Alumni have gone on to establish non-governmental organisations, lead antimicrobial resistance awareness initiatives that have reached thousands of people, contribute to research and policy, and receive international recognition, including the Diana Award.
Winning the 2025 Antibiotic Guardian Award represents an important milestone in the programme’s journey and affirms the value of African-led, youth-driven solutions to global health challenges. It reflects the dedication of our interns, mentors, facilitators, partners, and the entire Ducit Blue Foundation team, whose shared commitment continues to strengthen leadership, innovation, and collaboration in the fight against antimicrobial resistance across Africa.
